Last month at a CarePortal training in an Oklahoma County DHS office, we heard from Kelly, a child welfare supervisor. We had been explaining CarePortal and sharing stories of the impact it has had. Kelly raised her hand to speak to the group. Here’s what she said:
I have been with DHS for over 10 years. So many times workers feel alone or we have gone to the same people to ask for help. There are so many times I have paid out of my own pocket for things for children and families and have never given it a second thought, but now there is one place to go and many people at once can feel the need and respond. Hearing the possibilities, I no longer feel alone. Please thank all those who are taking their time to pray, care, and give! We as social workers are glad to have support! Thank you for all you do!
There are many other child welfare workers like Kelly who have often felt alone in their work. We are humbled that God has chosen to use the local Church and CarePortal as a means to support and encourage them.
Here’s what four more caseworkers have had to say after seeing case needs met through CarePortal:
“As a worker, it is sometimes frustrating when I cannot help a family because the resources are not available. Thank you so much for fulfilling this need! I cannot thank you enough for helping this family!” – Bethany, Oklahoma County
“The impact is hardly explainable it is so impressive. Each time I use the care portal there is something new that affects me. It helps me to stay passionate about my job and helps me to see how many people are out there that back Social Workers everyday. It shows there is a community of people/believers that are here to serve families and children to make an impact on their lives. I am sure this is just the beginning of what the CarePortal is going to allow us to do and can’t wait to see the future of this community!” – Karen, Tulsa County
“CarePortal is easy to use and encourages community participation with families who are involved in child welfare. It is additionally beneficial due to the budget cuts Oklahoma state agencies are currently experiencing.” – Naomi, Oklahoma County
“I am seeing God working through these requests. People were willing to help this family and not pass judgment on them! That’s truly emulating the hands and feet of Christ!!!” – Jill, Oklahoma County
You too can support Oklahoma caseworkers and children and families facing crisis. Right now, there are over 100 CarePortal requests open across Oklahoma. That means over 100 families that could be impacted by the local church.
