This fall, Leslie, a caseworker in Cherokee County, found herself in a desperate place. Her department had been working with a medically fragile baby girl who had been in their custody since her birth four months earlier. This little fighter was born at 25 weeks and weighed only 1 pound and 7 ounces. Alia had been in the hospital all of her life, had undergone multiple surgeries, and been on oxygen and a feeding tube. Leslie and her team had been desperately working to find a loving home that could also meet Alia’s medical needs. After four weeks of checking with every available foster home in the entire state, they had not been able to find a place for Alia. Then they were informed that the hospital where Alia was being treated was not going to be able to keep her over the coming weekend.
Desperate, Leslie sent a request through CarePortal. She explained the situation and asked the local churches to pray that God would provide a home that could care for Alia and also love her unconditionally.
Several local churches responded to encourage Leslie and the rest of her team and let them know that they were praying. Those churches also shared the request with other churches and friends in their community. Within less than an hour of the prayer request being sent, the department had found a local home for Alia!
A brand new foster family had heard about Alia and knew that she was supposed to come live with them. This family had experience with the type of medical care that Alia needed and were ready to care for and love this sweet baby.
In an email Leslie sent to us about this miraculous experience, she said:
All I can say is without this support, I feel we would have spent the entire weekend in the office with this baby. Instead, she is in a home with a person who loves her and is receiving excellent physical and emotional care. By the way, this home is a perfect fit for this child. Baby girl had a good weekend, and had no issues adjusting to life outside of the hospital.
What an incredible story of God’s goodness! The CarePortal provided a network for Alia’s story to get to the one family that need to hear it – the foster family that God had already chosen for her.
