“He didn’t bring water to the ocean. He took water to dry and thirsty souls,” Coleen told us while explaining why she works to meet the needs of people in her community.
For the past two years, she has been collecting clothing for children in Tulsa. She uses His Littlest Blessings Children’s Clothing Ministry to meet clothing needs for children in her community. When Coleen started to collect clothes, she had no idea how God would use her obedience. Now, she has helped over 500 kids in Tulsa. Not only does she meet needs through CarePortal, but she also has built a presence in her community and over social media. Recently, Colleen thought she was meeting a clothing CarePortal need for six kids. After talking with the client, Coleen found out that 13 kids were in need of either shoes or clothes. She immediately began looking at what sizes she had available for those kids. All of this is possible through the donations of friends, church members, family, and even people she met over social media. Colen loves the connections she makes with clients and those who donate. A favorite story of Coleen’s was a request for church clothes for a little girl. She called moments like this divine connections.
Coleen is passionate about meeting with these families. She loves praying with them and witnessing how kindness can change someone. Simply offering to pray with the families she serves has opened up long-term relationships. She has a good relationship with one client that started with meeting a need for one child. Now, she has baked cupcakes for the little boy’s birthday. “I love the new relationships. I can’t buy them a car, but I can bake cupcakes,” Coleen says. Since starting His Littlest Blessings, Coleen has also met other types of needs through CarePortal or through her relationships with clients. Last year, in the middle of COVID, she and her friends spent a day preparing meals for a family in need. Coleen loves building relationships with her clients, but she also enjoys strengthening her faith community. She looks forward to more connections within her church. Coleen was blessed by a friend who decided to fill a CarePortal request by buying new furniture. “When you see that happen, it just blows your socks off,” Coleen says about such generosity. She also loves working with her husband; “I couldn’t do it without him.” Coleen encouraged others to seek ways they can meet the needs of families in their community. “It’s not about you – Jesus is our example and he was constantly helping others.” Coleen shared that she didn’t know how this ministry would work in the beginning, but she knew to “stand back and watch God do it. You are the hands and feet.”
