Beds, bus passes and baby formula were just a few items churches across the state delivered to families in January.
Churches set a record in January by serving 50% more children state-wide using a growing connection technology called CarePortal managed by 111Project.
Across the state, 610 children were served, which is up from 411 children last year.
“That is our 3rd all time high of kids served in one month and it just happened in what would typically be a down month for us,” 111Project Executive Director Chris Campbell said. “It also sets the tone for a 7,200+ year target of kids served for this year.”
Campbell said January is typically the lowest number of children served and is the baseline for children served for the year.
“What I love is that both on the east and west side of the state there was significant growth,” Campbell said. “It continues to show it is going to be a great year!”
111Project is a non-profit organization with the mission to mobilize the local church so every child has family. The goal of the organization is to mobilize 1000 churches across the state of Oklahoma that can serve at least a family a month on CarePortal and recruit and support a foster family every year.
The vision is if 1,000 of the 6,200 churches in Oklahoma recruit one foster family a year and served one child welfare family per month, there would be no child welfare crisis. Families could be waiting on children instead of children waiting on families.
