Over 165 new churches join the movement to serve families in crisis
OKLAHOMA – One hundred and sixty-six churches in 48 Oklahoma counties enrolled on CarePortal in 2023, taking the total number of statewide 111Project partnered churches over 665.
“We know the local church cares for the least of these, but it is sometimes hard to know the best ways to help,” 111Project Executive Director Chris Campbell said. “We are so grateful for the confidence from almost 700 Oklahoma churches who have said ‘yes’ to partnering together with us in CarePortal to see that every child has family.”
111Project is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) with the mission to mobilize the local church so every child has family. The organization’s initial goal is to mobilize 1,000 churches across Oklahoma that can serve at least one family a month on CarePortal and recruit and support a foster family every year.
As of December, 70 percent of the state has been mobilized in 54 counties across Oklahoma.
If 1,000 out of the 6,200 churches in Oklahoma commit to recruit and support one foster family a year, and serve one family a month on CarePortal, the state will move closer to having more than enough help for children and families in crisis.
CarePortal is a growing connection technology managed by the 111Project that allows agency partners – like Oklahoma Human Services Child Welfare – to submit vetted needs to the community and local churches to serve families in crisis.
These vetted needs can range from diapers and wipes to bunk beds and blankets, which will help support a foster family, strengthen a biological family, or help a family get one step closer to reunification.
The top three newly enrolled churches that had the greatest impact this year included First Christian Church of Midwest City, Claremore Assembly of God in Claremore, and The Rock in Choctaw.
First Christian Church of Midwest City joined the CarePortal network in January and served 59 families and 129 children and had an economic impact of $89,401. Claremore Assembly of God in Claremore also joined in January and served 44 families and 87 children and had an economic impact of $42,398. The Rock in Choctaw joined in August and served 34 families and 98 children and had an economic impact of $18,560.
