Kristin Langrehr is the 111Project Western Director, which covers Northwest Region 1A, North Region 1B, Central Region 2B and 3, South Region 2C and Southwest Region 2A. Her roles include supporting the Western team and managing Community Coordinators across the state. Kristin joined the team in January 2023 but has been working in child advocacy for years.
Before starting at 111Project, Kristin was a medical social worker at the Children’s Center in Bethany where she worked in a pediatric rehab and long-term care unit for kids who have complex medical needs; a family advocate and community educator at Mary Abbott House Child Advocacy Center in Norman where she developed a curriculum for recognizing and reporting abuse for child-serving professionals; a social worker at Children of the World in Alabama where she helped families with the adoption process and she also worked to launch CarePortal in Baldwin County, Alabama; she worked as an Area Director for CarePortal in Florida during their state-wide expansion.
Kristin received her Bachelor’s degree in Human Relations and her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Oklahoma in Norman. She has been married to her husband, Trent, for 16 years and they have three children: Stevenson, Joumy and Maya. Kristin and Trent adopted their sons, Stevenson and Joumy, from Haiti. Their biological daughter, Maya, was born with Down Syndrome. They attend People’s Church in Oklahoma City.
Kristin’s favorite verse is 1 John 4:19:
We love because he first loved us.
This verse is inscribed on her and her husband’s wedding rings because it encompasses their family’s mission statement to live from the inside out – externalizing for others what God has done for them internally.
Kristin grew up in the Methodist tradition, but it wasn’t until she was invited to Falls Creek at 13 that her salvation story began.
“I was a people-pleaser by nature. I never wanted to disappoint anyone,” she said. “There was no personal ownership for me and my relationship with God. I didn’t understand that it was a personal walk with God.”
It was that youth camp trip where she began taking ownership of her faith and not allowing the views of others to rule her life.
“My testimony has been about my identity in Christ. It’s realizing who I am in Christ and living into who He created me to be, not just shapeshifting to get people to like me or be who I think people want me to be,” she said. “It’s been a journey of gaining self-confidence from knowing my identity in Christ and what He’s done for me.”
Kristin has always had a burning heart for justice, which is what led her to shift from Human Relations to Social Work. This desire to advocate for others has led her down the path of living differently and working to bless others.
Kristin’s social work experience has exposed her to the needs of the marginalized and most vulnerable. At the same time, her experience in ministry with her husband being a pastor on staff at their church has given her another perspective.
“On one hand, I see how much need there is in the community, but on the other hand, I see how much love there is in the Church. I truly believe the Church is the hope of the world and I’ve been given a unique position to be a bridge that connects the solution to the need.”
Kristin said her view of social work has evolved from meeting needs to holistic reconciliation.
“We’re all broken people, and we all need the same thing. Connection and relationships level the playing field” she said. “This work transforms both those being served and those serving. It brings us all closer to what Jesus prayed in John 17—that we may be brought to complete unity.”
