The story of this couple is a great example of what it means for the church to engage in recruiting and supporting foster families. Our friends at Bridgeway Church in Oklahoma City produced this video and are sharing it with their church body as they launch their new foster and adoptive ministry. They are helping educate and tell the story of foster care in the church. The story also speaks about Believers Church in Tulsa and the role that church body played in supporting Josh and Christen during their foster care journey in Tulsa. Having a statewide network of churches means that we are all working towards the same goal with similar methods no matter the ministry philosophy, church size, or structure! It’s a beautiful work of unity that displays God’s heart for us to care for the vulnerable.
As the 111Project team works to mobilize the local churches across Oklahoma so every child has family, we know that it takes ALL of us! The church, the agency, the foster parents, the small group… everyone can do something!
Josh and Christen are a beautiful example of a couple who were willing to set their fears aside and obey the call to foster. They knew it would be challenging, they faced those challenges, asked for help, received support, and just kept taking one step after another. When the heartbreak and the hard things came, they kept trusting God and can now look back and see how the Lord used that season in their lives, in their kids’s lives, in the church, and beyond.
Thank you Josh and Christen for sharing your story! Thank you Bridgeway for capturing it on video! Thank you Believers Church for supporting foster familes!
