On February 24th, 111Project and Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) launched CarePortal in Jefferson County. This county is the 75th in Oklahoma to have CarePortal. CarePortal in Jefferson County, making it the 75th county in Oklahoma to activate the platform. CarePortal is an innovative online tool that connects local churches with the real-time needs of children and families in crisis, as identified by child-serving professionals. This is an important step towards serving vulnerable children and families in that community. Only two counties remain to be launched and are scheduled to take place in the month of March. This milestone was made possible by the collaboration of several local churches, dedicated volunteers, and child welfare advocates.
Churches including Ringling United Methodist, Terral Baptist Church, Ryan First Baptist Church, Waurika Methodist Church, and Irving Baptist Church came together with OKDHS, 111Project Regional Manager Brady Sharp, and key volunteers to turn compassion into action. Pastor Mark Kunkel of Terral Baptist Church played a vital role in opening doors for this initiative, helping to bring churches together to meet real needs in the community.
Answered Prayers & Real Impact
One of the most touching moments of the launch came from a leader from a newly enrolled church, who shared, “This is an answer to my prayers. We’ve been trying to figure out how to better serve children.” That evening ended with four churches having enrolled in CarePortal – one enrolled the Sunday night before and three more signed up at the launch. Jefferson County churches were ready to make a difference in the lives of children in need!
The event was more than just a gathering; it was a moment of unity. A photograph was taken at the event that captured a powerful image of church leaders standing in a circle with DHS personnel, discussing the urgent needs of families in Jefferson County. This picture spoke volumes about the heart behind the mission – churches and organizations working hand in hand to bring hope and practical support to their communities.

Be Part of the Movement
The impact of CarePortal in Oklahoma is undeniable. More than 780 churches statewide have helped serve over 43,500 children, contributing to an economic impact of over $127 million since 2016. Jefferson County joining this movement as the 75th county leaves only Roger Mills and Murray counties to be launched before the entire state is activated. We are approaching a significant milestone in this movement, and yet, our work is far from over. Mobilizing the entire state is only the first step in the mission to see that every child has a family. And we believe everyone can do something to help!
We invite every church across Oklahoma to get involved in this movement. Enrolling in CarePortal is free and provides real-time opportunities to support local families. Together, we can be the hands and feet of Christ, responding to needs as they arise and showing the love of Jesus through action.
